Family Petitions
There is no higher priority than being close to the ones we love. The United States immigration system allows citizens and legal residents to sponsor their family members to obtain Permanent Residency (Green Card). However, an error in the application or a can result in years of waiting. My commitment is to ensure that your petition is solid from day one.
Family Petition Options:
Petitions by U.S. Citizens
U.S. citizens have the most extensive and fastest family immigration options:
Immediate Relatives (No waiting list): Spouses, unmarried children under 21, and parents (if the petitioner is over 21).
Fiancé(e) Visa (K-1):
U.S. citizens may petition for a foreign national fiancé(e) to enter the United States for the purpose of marriage. The couple must marry within 90 days of entry, after which the foreign national may apply for adjustment of status.
Family Preference Categories (Subject to quotas):
F1: Unmarried sons and daughters (21+)
F3: Married sons and daughters
F4: Brothers and sisters
Petitions by Lawful Permanent Residents (Green Card Holders)
If you hold a Green Card, you can sponsor:
F2A: Spouse and unmarried children under 21
F2B: Unmarried sons and daughters (21+)
Important Notes
Residents cannot petition for parents, married children, or siblings.
Only U.S. citizens can file for siblings and parents.
All preference categories are subject to visa availability and waiting times.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How long does my petition take?
Immediate relatives of citizens are typically processed within months. For other categories, the timing depends on the monthly Visa Bulletin, which we monitor on your behalf to notify you as soon as your priority date becomes current.
Can I petition for my fiancé?
Yes, through the K-1 Visa. This allows your partner to come to the United States to get married and then adjust their status here. (Only United States citizens.)
What happens if the sponsor passes away during the process?
There are humanitarian protection laws that allow a case to continue under certain circumstances. We evaluate whether you may qualify for a substitute sponsor.
